Skoda India Considering Elroq Electric SUV Alongside Enyaq iV

Skoda India is planning to bring the Elroq electric SUV to the country, alongside the already confirmed Enyaq iV. They are also exploring the possibility of assembling both electric vehicles (EVs) locally. The Elroq is set to be unveiled globally later this year and is expected to hit European markets by early 2025. If all goes as planned, Skoda may commence assembling these SUVs in India by the end of 2025.

Local Assembly Plans

  • “The Enyaq and Elroq share the same platform, making it efficient to utilize parts and components,” said Petr Janeba, Skoda India brand director.
  • Skoda is currently evaluating whether to participate in the government’s EV manufacturing policy announced in March. This policy mandates companies to establish manufacturing facilities in India within three years and commence EV production. Companies investing in EV manufacturing can import cars at a reduced customs duty rate. The minimum investment required is Rs 4,150 crore, with no upper limit.
  • If Skoda decides to partake, it will aid the company in meeting CAFÉ targets and enable the import of certain niche EVs at a 15% customs duty rate, akin to CKD models. In the event Skoda opts out, they will kick off EV operations on a smaller scale, concentrating on the Enyaq.

About the Skoda Enyaq and Elroq

  • The Enyaq iV is constructed on the VW Group’s MEB platform, which also underpins the Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron. Measuring 4,648mm in length and 1,877mm in width, it is slightly smaller than the Skoda Kodiaq but features only two rows of seats. The Enyaq iV 80x, anticipated for India, will boast a 77kWh battery and dual motors generating 265hp. The battery supports 125kW DC fast charging and provides a range of 513km (WLTP) on a single charge.
  • While the finalized version of the Elroq is yet to be unveiled, Skoda has disclosed that it will be approximately 4.2 meters long and will be the pioneer model to showcase the new Modern Solid design language. The Elroq will be available in four variants: Elroq 50, 60, 85, and 85x, with power outputs ranging from 168hp to 295hp. It will offer three battery choices—55kWh, 63kWh, and 82kWh—along with both RWD and AWD configurations, promising a range exceeding 560km.
